RWE AG becomes the main sponsor of the European Film Awards

- RWE’s commitment to the European Film Awards is part of corporate strategy of supporting the biggest cultural events throughout Europe since many years
- In Poland since two years RWE is the Strategic Partner to the Warsaw Film Festival – one of the biggest cultural events
RWE AG became the main sponsor of the European Film Awards, the most prestigious award presented to films on the Old Continent. The “European Oscars” will be presented on 12thof December, during celebrations of the “European City of Culture RUHR 2010” day in Bochum. This year the European Film Academy has nominated winners in 17 categories. The polish movie “33 sceny z życia” from Małgorzata Szumowska was also nominated for the award.
“Supporting the European Film Award is part of our sponsoring activities related to the Year of the City of Culture. At the same time RWE Group contributes to artistic events not only in Germany, our international companies also actively support the biggest cultural events throughout Europe” – saidDr. Stephan Muschick, Head of Corporate Citizenship at RWE AG.
It is not the first event of this type supported by RWE Group. In Poland since two years we are the Strategic Partner to the Warsaw Film Festival that celebrates its 25thanniversary this year. RWE in Poland actively participates in creation of promotion strategy of the event that sets the trends in modern cinema art. This year the Festival was admitted into the elite category of “competitive feature film festivals” byFIAPF – the International Federation of Film Producers Associations.
Since several years RWE commits itself to cultural events in different parts of Europe. In Czech Republic, RWE Transgas co-produces feature films, supports dozens of documentary films and assists the organisation of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. And RWEVertrieb AG company since this year supports the renowned International Women’s Film Festival Dortmund. For the third time the company will award the best director with a prize of 25 000 euro.
RWE is among the five leading utilities in Europe, with 100% of its shares quoted on the German and Swiss Stock Exchanges. It specialises in generation, transmission, distribution and sales of electricity and gas. RWE employs 66 thousand people, supplies 14 million customers with electricity and 6 million with gas. RWE is the largest energy producer in Germany and number three in the UK. It is also present in Central Europe, operating not only in Poland, but also in Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and Hungary. The largest RWE owned companies in Poland are RWE Polska – responsible for supporting RWE’s development in Poland, selling energy toover 880thousand customers, and RWE Stoen Operator company that operates the Warsaw electricity network. RWE is planning to build state-of-the-art hard-coal fired 800 MW power station by 2015 in Silesia. Development plans also include commissioning of 300 MW wind farms by 2015. In view of all already implemented and planned investments, RWE becomes one of the major foreign investors in Poland.
